The highlights of the hop season every year are the months August and September. Depending on the weather, the hop harvest starts around the 20th of August. The sea of hop branches can already be admired in the “garden” weeks before. The anticipation of the locals is great. And when the harvest starts, the real Hallertauer cannot be held back. There is an old saying: “Once the hop has scratched you, it never lets go”. As a matter of fact, the hops do infatuate the senses: one can become overwhelmed with the big green shimmering hop fields, one can feel the unconventional shape of the umbels and one can smell the hops harvest. The spicy scent that arises when the hop is dried spills out of the kiln-plates on the farms.
