The Danube formed a river landscape that varies from soft to bizarre beauty. On a boat tour on one of the comfortable ships, nature presents itself from its contemplative as its spectacular side. On the last natural reach in a Bavarian river – the stretch between the Benedict monastery of Weltenburg and the scenic Wittelsbach town of Kelheim – you become a witness to the past. The Danube reach offers an exciting trip through several geological eras and reveals the geological history of this unique river reach. The preserved natural area “Weltenburger Enge” has been awarded the European diploma for particular landscapes worth protecting by the European Council in Strasbourg on the 3rd of March 1978.
